Oh man, I hated long car rides in Florida. Especially when the AC had conked out.

It works even better if you anchor the work on a clipboard. Just tie all the strands in an overhand knot at the beginning and slide it under the clip part of the clipboard. you can move the anchor point along as the work gets longer. I don't do bracelets, only necklaces.

ok. so this is a greatt tutorial! a pretty nifty way also is to start the necklace or bracelet with an overhand knot. so its just a loop and then when you are done, you can end it with a bead around the size of the loop you started with (i like wooden beads but that's just me. so then you can take the necklace or whatever off and on easily. i guess i could figure out how to make a tutorial or something, that might make this less confusing. anyway thanks for spreading the macrame love!

I know I'm a little late to comment here, but I've been going through the archives all day. I never thought to pull out my hemp for long road trips. Brilliant!
Another tip is to alternate which outer strand goes over and which goes under, taking turns, so the macramé goes flat rather than spins, which is great for making a choker (the twisting parts chaiff my neck, and you can always stop the alternation to make it spin in the front, or wherever you want it).
