Oh my goodness! I loooooove it! This came out really great! Rag*Trade
Great show! Loved the comment on how far our garments have to travel to get "to a mall near you". The overalls are very creative. Thanks so much for this inspirational show!
how do u sew with yarn knit fabrics like if ur remaking a sweater w/out it unreaveling everywhere. i cut up an old sweater n each piece of yarn came out of my finished project 1 by 1 PLEASE HELP
Damn it, why does this show have a heavy hippie vibe? Anti shipping... Antichemicals... Purely organic? Holy shit, the chemicals and resources used keep you alive and happy. Without said chemicals, you college-know-it-alls would have a lifespan of thirty years... like when there wasn't manufactured chemicals, shipping, and "frakenfood".
Regardless, it's a good show... Just realize that this is a program designed for making your own fashion and statement, not conforming to the "god made dirt and dirt don't hurt" beliefs.
@tweti, sweaters and blankets that are not handmade are made on a machine that cuts the yarn after each row. if you are wanting to remake something out of an old sweater try to find one that was made by hand. or just be really careful:)
James...sounds like you don't get out much. Maybe your one of the few that haven't heard of CANCER or Global Warming...Regardless, its a GREAT show, and its ours.So its about whatever we want it to be. - Rob
Cancer you say!? Oh dear. Damn us humans for CREATING cancer. You know what is also horrible? Let me see:
Starving to death: Many countries do it, and more do it now that you hippies convince countries that GM food poisons people. In fact, GM food allows for vegetation to grow in arid climates and hard soil. Isn't that dandy?
Global Warming?: Holy shit, we're gonna fry to death! Maybe we will, but the earth has been warming since before we started polluting. And do you know what is one of the greatest contributers to Global Warming? Methane from cattle. Great, we can stop killing animals AND save the environment... right?
Malnutrition: Nothing can keep us as fit as eating animal and vegatation-based foods. Sure, you can live off of vegetation, but you have to be a near biochemist to understand how much and of what you need to eat to survive. This is why vegans look sickly... its because they are malnourished. Need a better argument? How about the vegan couple that killed their child by feeding it soy milk... which does not have enough nutrients to keep a baby healthy.
Chemicals Cause Cancer: Organic shit causes cancer too... And if you stop fucking importing all your vegan foods, we won't die from global warming... Oh shit, you got burned!
PeTA: Funds terrorists to firebomb science labs... some of which are finding CURES TO CANCER.
So if you hippies stop bitching, you'll figure out you are hurting the planet more than you are helping it. So just stop it already.
I'm so glad the internet was invented, so people like you could talk so much crap.
actually it is proven that gmo crops have very low yields compared to what their manufactures claim them to be and strip the soil of crucial nutrients which are essential to plant life. the land later becomes infertile an unusable. also, we have no idea what the long term effects of gmos are. there is a reason why all of europe has banned gmo crops. bio-dynamic farming is much more beneficial to the environment.
and starvation has been around way before gmo crops were thought of. if you looked deeper into why starvation is happening, i think you would realize it has nothing to do with gmo crops.
ok, moving on to global warming. yes, the earth has had periods over time where it has heated and cooled naturally. the reason why it is different now is that it has been extremely accelerated by our, humans, over consumption and burning of fossil fuels. and actually our polluting started about 4000 years ago.
how does organic "shit" cause cancer? personally, i eat locally grown organic food. i have the choice to eat food either with chemicals and without chemicals...i choose without. my mom died from cancer so trust me it is not something i take lightly. there is no one "cure" for cancer due to the fact that each person's cancer is different. the "key" to healing cancer is early detection, lifestyle and attitude changes.
btw, the only bitching that i've seen has come from you James. maybe if you spent less time bitching and more time learning, the world would be a better place. try engaging in non-violent communication and constructive debates.
p.s. you don't have to be a hippie to care about the environment.
Actually, all food strip nutrients from the soil, and just as much as genetically modified foods. Many people think that genetically modified means screwing with genes, but its contained cross pollination techniques that create these new crops. In fact, corn didn't exist before we created it! That's right, maze was a hard fruited crop that doesn't exist anymore, and was cross pollinated with other grasses to create corn. Yellow soft bananas didn't exist until natives cross pollinated several strands of bananas to create something edible.
A name you should look up is Norman Borlaug. The man is a hero of many nations, yet America has never known of him. He helped create breeds of wheat and other crops that would grow in otherwise unfavorable conditions. These GM foods elevated starving in parts of Mexico and countries in Africa.
Unfortunately, many people who are pro-organic have convinced countries of not accepting said food. Why? Because they were told they were being poisoned.
Many produce has been proven and disproven and proven again that they cause cancer. Coffee for example. The thing is that nearly everything could cause cancer or other illnesses because they were not designed to be eaten. Even when we try to adapt foods to be healthier, their purpose was not to be eaten. Their purpose was to live.
Even though Global Warming studies find that its being accelerated, you have to realize the amount of transport is needed to keep societies running. Threadbangers runs off of a server, is shot on a camera, and is edited on a computer... all of which took transport that polluted the airs, the seas, and the land. It would be hypocritical to talk about conserving when you use so much without even knowing it. In fact, a book as been recently written about how difficult it is living without products from just China. I'm sure a lot of your fabrics, foods, computers, building materials could not be in your hands or even produced without harmful chemicals or pollution.
What do we do about it? Instead of pushing recycling clothing as if its the cure-all, we should be pushing scientific studies, grafts, funding so that transport (not just cars but boats and aircrafts) could be completely safe to the environment. Otherwise, every time Rob and his girlfriend fly or drive across the country, they will be adding to the destruction of the earth.
It's hard to realize that peace and love won't cure everything... it takes a bit of individual research. ;)
vegans don't suffer from malnutrition- in fact, my sister is a vegan, and she is quite healthy. I am a vegetarian, and believe that food should be left alone, leave chemicals out of food.
second of all, global warming has increased significatly since the industrial revolution. that's right, cars, smoke, and even little things such as spray deoderant cause global warming. And yeah. we can be taking measures to try and slow it down.
the vegan couple? try EXTREMEISM. everything can be dangerous when you take it to the extrem. take islam, for instance.
james, the only one bitching here is you. we did'nt bring this stuff up. and your on a DIY and recycling network. what did you expect us to talk about? gap and old navy? capitalism at it's finest?
rob, check out my profile on youtube: I have a bunch of Music up there that I would love to have featured at the show.
I actually love this show. My clothes used to be completly commercial, but right now I am wearing an outfit made completely from my own hand's work and it feels amazingly gratifying. keep up the good work!
when you have a variety of crops growing in an area v.s. one, they add nutrients into the soil. when you spray pesticides and fungicides on plants you kill all the wonderful microorganisms that live in the ground and are essential to all life. not to mention the people who are paid very little to spray all those chemicals. the types of gmos that are scary are the ones designed to withstand higher doses of chemicals and produce higher yields, not the type of cross pollination james is referring to. the countries not accepting gmos don't just do it because some one told them not to. they do their research and decide what is better for them. and its not because we think its "poisoned" its because there is no controlling the crops once they are planted and no knowledge of its long term affect. a very high percentage of the food on the grocery market shelves are made with gmo food already. don't you think its only right for people to know what is in their food?
trust me, i do realize how much it takes to keep our society running. i also realize that the more i can do personally to use less, buy less, drive less has a big impact. it takes a lot more than love and good vibes (they don't hurt:) it takes action. yes, threadbanger takes fossil fuel to run. but it is also a tool to help educate people to think about the things they buy and what went into creating them. yes, we travel minimally, but when we go places we make sure to get as much content as possible for multiple shows. for example, we filmed katia's hoodie lesson when we were in LA in january...we got 4 episodes out of that trip to cali. when we are home we don't drive. i have a very rad bike...or i walk. i haven't driven a car in 2 years and traveled extensively on a bus that runs on recycled vegetable oil. i learned many things about the research that is happening around alternative fuels and hybrid technology. the truth is, is that is starts at home. what ever you can do to lessen your footprint such as thrift shopping, reduce/reuse/recycle, walking, eating locally grown food, is the most important. we will never stop talking about reusing things to make "new" things:)

I think That is so cool.
I think also that you should get inot more things like easier less time taking things to sew
(I don't know how to put that in specific words)[but whatever]
For instance what if you were going to go to a party in like an hour and stumbled upon this sight.
You wouldn't be able to make a cool pair of ninja gloves with the amount of time you have to get ready.
Great job once again! I must say that I have subscribed to you guys on YouTube a few weeks after your first episode and each one has been awesome.
Onto my request. I've always wanted to be able to make my own peacoat. Although it is almost August, I was wondering if you could show us how to make a hooded peacoat? If you could, that would be awesome.
Until next Tuesday! *Snip, snip*
Hey Guys,
I love the show, but i do have this one suggestion. You see, my school has this uniform its not too strict but we do have to wear white, collared t-shirts and any logos cant be bigger than a 3x5 index card. I was wondering if you guys could jip the system and help me create a totally rad school tee before summer ends.
-Ian
