I totally just added the scarf one to my Amazon wishlist.

  • graymalking wrote on January 11, 12:57 pm

It turned out lovely! I loved sweatshirts when I was a teenager, because they were shapeless. Now I've become more girly, but I still have those sweaties (I just couldn't get rid of them). Thanks to you and the Compai ladies I know what to do with them.

    Thank you!

  • MandyKayy wrote on January 11, 1:55 pm

    yay new episode!

And Wow I want those books now >_>

That was a great odea transforing the sweatshirt! I love the button sleeves.

And I lvoe that comercial you guys do...that looks liek its for the people askinf for money to help starving children or something..lol that makes me giggle.

And you know what would be realllly awesome to see next?

How to make a skirt..(yes you have had old ones..that were awesome)
but I have yet to se one with liek a real girlyy skirt(let me try to explain)

the one that is kinda ruffley at the bottom? umm..when you spin around they go up..kinda looks like they are a fan folded up at the botom.

wow I suck at explainging.. but if you get what i mean then yea! that be awesome..cuz I just cant figure out how to make one like that...

    anyways great show!!

  • MandyKayy wrote in reply on January 11, 1:57 pm

OOps I meant paper fan....that might make it easier to explain XD

  • ink_bottle wrote in reply on January 11, 6:46 pm

I think you're referring to a pleated skirt. (fanfolding)
IF you want ruffles you'll want petticoats.

  • MandyKayy wrote in reply on January 11, 7:27 pm

Yea I think the pleated is what im talking about...Would LOVE a tutoral on that XD

  • tweti wrote on January 11, 2:49 pm

dear threadbanger i was very disappointed watching some of your videos. i absolutely luv the idea. they're pretty, unique and well awesome... but unfortunatly i am a freshman in highschool living in a decently small room, so i have 4 dilema's i would appreciate some assistance with... 1) i don't really have space for fabric, a machine, a sewing table, dress form, and so on and so on.
    2) i don't really have the money for all of the above
    3) i don't have a car and my mom and dad work full time so oppurtunities to get them to drive all the way to the craft stores are low and the public transportation where i live SUCKS and to top it all off the closest craft store to my house is 30 minutes by car, so it's hard to just run to the store for all of the supplies you use.
    4) i like ot reuse old t-shirts but the only ones i have that i don't as is are ones i've grown out of and most of the how -toos just make them smaller of the same size...

PLEASE, PLEASE make a limited resource friendly episode... or just keep it in mind when making other episodes.

some advice on how to do my own sweeny todd type thing would b great cuz that was the 1 i really missed out on =(

    much luv =) tweti

  • ink_bottle wrote in reply on January 11, 6:39 pm

    Dear tweti,
I understand how you feel. I'm in a pretty small space and a first year college student so our financial situation is about the same. i say just work with what you got around you and be creatieve. I have no room for my mum's old sewing machine so it's either use her desk or drak this ancient thing up stairs to my rooma nd plop it on my old wooden toybox. Remember majority of this stuff can be done my hand, just with a lot more time, skill and patience. IF you really need a machine try a second hand store where machines are around 30bucks but be careful they're no too old, they may be there for a reason.
Storage for your stuff can be as simple as a tupperware container or one of thos giant ziplock bags.
A floor works just as well as a sewing table, you just need to be flexible.
you don't need a bodyform, but they honestly don't take up room, make it's part time job a hat rack when not being used, heh.
AS for getting craft supplies: plan ahead and stock up. Check and see if any local goodwills (or the equivalent) are having 50% off sales (like mine was today) and get things even if you know it won't fit, save it until you find a cool way to change it. Buy a sewing kit, it'll include the essentials and get a few spools of thread. Also for extra materials scan fabric shops' reminant bins, even walmart has one usually.
Once you're wstocked up with a stash of material and you have the tools it'll get much simpler.
It'll cost a bit of money, if you're broke: ask relatives, especially grandmothers... they usually have stashes of this kind of stuff.
    Hope this helps ^_^"

PS: i also need a project for making shirts bigger, one thing about bigger boobs is it makes all your shirts too short (thank god for tank tops)

  • Holly wrote in reply on January 12, 4:03 pm

Heh, I'm a junior in high school with a small room, where I can fit my bed, my keyboard (piano, not computer, lol), my tv, and some random odds and ends (that includes 3 more musical insturments...) in there... And no room for my sewing machine, but I manage. I sew in my living room, and keep my "fabric" (which only includes old tee's from my dad mostly, right now...) on top of my bunk bed. And as for my sewing machine, I found it two years ago at my neighbor's garage sale, for 5 dollars. :D
If you really want to get into D.I.Y., you'll find a way to manage. Don't worry. :)

I feel you! But there are ways to do pretty much everything on the cheap. I have a bunch of articles on my website like "creativity on the cheap", "the art of charity shop shopping" and various others that are full of tips. Click on my name above if you want to check them out :)

Haha, that commercial cracked me up! Thanks Threadheads!!

  • ink_bottle wrote on January 11, 6:44 pm

    68Lbs of clothes a year? That's insane! I bet i don't trash more than 8Lbs.
All my clothes get donated. All my jeans have been saved for a larger project in the future. Some become craft scraps and any clothes not worth donating are torn into strips for rags lol.
MY sorta motto-ish way is not to waste what can be used again for something else..... developed from my poor farming grandmother's habits.

  • orangeart wrote on January 11, 7:45 pm

Hey I want to know If you guys can do a show on what to do with old button up shirts. I've already took one of my dad's old shirts and tailored it (with the pinch and pin method) and made it to fit me. But is there anything else I can do?

  • Holly wrote in reply on January 12, 4:05 pm

I second that... I have a plaid button-up from my dad that's HUGE on me, (he's not huge or anything, I'm jsut short and skinny) and I'm not sure exactly what to do with it.

  • earthapple wrote on January 15, 2:44 pm

...should also be known as 99 ways to save the planet, one stitch at a time. I love the way old ways come around again. My grandparents passed away a couple years ago and among their many things from their beginnings way up in the Northwest Territories were several handcrafted tools from old tincans, bits of wood crates and canvas; Christmas ornaments from old nails and tincans; and some really old toys made from all the same stuff!
You're website is fantastic and totally necessary - thank you!
