I'm not planning to have any baby sooon, but that is actually a very good project for my local orfans shelter. They could use a few of those.

I do have a dog, though. A seven month old yellow labrador who walks around shamelessly naked. Anything cool that you could teach us for improving a big dog's wardrobe? Why should only the toy pets have all the stylish outfits?:D

    cool! lurrrve it!

  • knitwench wrote on January 25, 3:52 pm

NEVER use a drawstring around a baby or child's neck, every year several kids die from drawstring accidents. Also you need to keep the extremities, like arms warm. People, especially small ones, lose heat fastest from these. The real, as in other people will know what you are talking about, name for this kind of thing is a Bunting. They have been around for hundreds of years, Ive made several myself.

  • mirrorrorrim wrote in reply on January 26, 2:21 pm

AMEN! I came here to post the same thing. Do NOT use drawstrings around babies or small children! EVER!

  • Aurora199 wrote in reply on January 27, 11:37 am

You're absolutely right. A little bit of elastic could be put around the hood.

  • theinnocent9 wrote on January 25, 4:28 pm

Wow thanks for the tutorial and the first baby episode! It has been unseasonably cold here in TX and that baby pod is the perfect thing to keep my son warm. Thanks again.

  • sewing_sophist wrote on January 25, 5:45 pm

That's too cute!! Even though I'm not planning on a baby anytime soon...
I made a clutch out of a huge thing of M & M's one time, but I think a corset is outta my league. XD

    Great work!

"this is what i did with ____, what can you do?" i like that! well said, and made it sound like a challenge, :)

  • Raphaelle wrote on January 25, 8:05 pm

That baby holder is adorable! I think that keeping the baby's arms inside the papoose (hehe) would actually be better, especially for the younger ones. Wrapping babies up snugly keeps them calm and warm. So, I guess if I made this for a future child of mine, I would make it a little bit wider to fit the whole bundle of joy inside, and leave the face peeking out. ^_^

I've been thinking about selling my hand made items. But I wonder if anything of mine would sell?! So where do people get their nerve to sell things? How did Femme Fatale get their start? How did any of the designers get their start? How do they know what price to ask for?

  • Broadwaybabe1307 wrote in reply on January 26, 10:58 am

That would be very helpful to put business information in an episode! I know I've heard tips and such on episodes, but never any full out information about how to start and run a business, online or in a building. I know many of us here are dreaming of opening our own line or store, so a couple basics would be helpful!

  • cutestoneofall090 wrote on January 26, 12:51 am

awsome! I have 3 relatives that are having babies! now i can make them all a baby pod!

  • AuroraMcP wrote on January 26, 8:43 am

Y'know, that baby pod is pretty cute. I could see this being made from recycled receiving blankets and baby blankets. You have no idea of how many I see when I visit the second hand stores. Oh, and instead of a tie for the hoos, try using an elastic band instead for safety. :D

Hmmm.. wonder if I can find secondhand flannel blankets for an 'adult pod'. *laugh* Warm a toasty!

  • AuroraMcP wrote in reply on January 26, 8:44 am

Okay.. that was supposed to be 'hood' not 'hoos'!!

  • greeyes wrote on January 26, 3:21 pm

Hey so yeah I would love to see a show on the business side of running a business doing this stuff as I hope to get there it would also help further the do it yourself style as people could see whats possible to make by hand. O and Rob if your birthday is coming up where do you want your presents sent?

  • tomothecat wrote on January 26, 3:40 pm

DON'T put drawstrings on baby gear!!! I know someone else already said this, but it can't really be said enough. A drawstring on baby clothes is a MAJOR choking hazard.

  • Pheydevaye wrote on January 26, 6:52 pm

I loved the baby pod .. but the facts are in .. Draw strings for anything for a baby or tot .. are a hazard and should be avoided .. Why not try just finishing off the hooded area as you had prior to putting in the draw string or try Elastic within the fold .. this way there's no chance of a choking child .. and we've still got the gathering for the warmth of their faces .. :)

  • aglanceatmyworld wrote on January 27, 3:35 am

I don't have a baby, but I sure do want to make a baby pod. Guess that means I'll have to make one for a friend's baby :) Thanks for all the awesome videos and tips!

  • Katzilla wrote on January 27, 12:54 pm

Man, I wish I could watch the videos! My internet's been RETARDED lately and makes watching videos (and even loading THIS website) a pain in the ass and most of the time it doesn't work ): This really sucks, my sister-in-law just had a baby and I can't get all of the instructions for the baby pod!

  • diy.or.die112 wrote on January 27, 3:17 pm

[gasp] thank you so much for featuring my videos!!!! that was awesome to see! i love you guys times a billion and a half.

  • sewthernbelle wrote on January 27, 3:51 pm

Yeah, learned rule number one when making clothes for kids in college...SAFETY!!!! That's why so many kids clothes are treated with fireproof chemicals. Might want to make a few adjustments to that baby pod Threadheads.

Meanwhile, I agree with fashionmama and Broadwaybabe1307. An episode about how to start a DIY buisness would be helpful.

  • Kindred the Crafty wrote on January 27, 7:51 pm

  • Lynne wrote on January 27, 7:55 pm

  • diy.or.die112 wrote in reply on January 28, 11:31 pm

why thank you. : ) i have no idea what to do with the dress now, there's not much down here in tucson, AZ for fashion (or at least none that i know!). let me know if you guys find any competitions or shows or anything.

  • VintageMeGREAT wrote on January 28, 12:55 am

I'm laughing so hard I'm crying. I can't believe you used the picture in the video! Ahh, good times.

    That's right, y'all. Six months and already a supa-star!

Anyway, I think it's amazing-in-a-box you did this show for all us riotous baby-havers. I'm not sure the pod is completely practical as-is for a real life baby, but with some small tweaks it certainly can be!

Thanks for rising to the challenge, Rob and Corinne! Rock on!!

so... I am already begging for another episode... just found this site and LOOOOVE IT. Unfortunately it greatly disturbs my sleep schedule... I have been up till 3 am the past 4 nights sewing...

    oh so addictive.

but anyways... I was wanting to know... do you have any ideas to make a bedroom more cozy? I have a drafty (cooold) old house and I just end up piling up like 12 different blankets (and a few pets)

    thanks!

  • x_omg_its_tanya wrote on February 2, 1:59 pm

I don't know if anyone already mentioned, but for knitters there's a website dailyknitter.com. It's basically a search engine for knitters, with a BUNCH of free patterns! There's articles, tips, yarn symbols, abbreviations - EVERYTHING! It's very handy to have. :P

  • jojo wrote on February 2, 6:28 pm

hi there love the baby stuff...but can i see some stuff for dogs

  • Angels Walk (anon) wrote on February 10, 2:22 pm

Hmmm.. What if you were to sew the drawstring down heavily in one spot, say the top center... and made the strings very short at the ends, short that there'd little to no chance of choking? Would this be safe?
Let me know what you think. ;)

  • oolishfay wrote in reply on February 17, 2:56 am

I still would never put a cord or string around or near a baby, the danger is not just choking, but also for hanging and strangling. Babies can get themselves into weird situations, and a string or cord can catch onto something, and hang them. This is why kids clothes no longer have cords; lots of little kids were getting hung up while sliding down slides on playgrounds! Babies & toddlers get strangled in the cords of the mini-blinds when their cribs are placed next to a window. Strings on or around babies, infants, children is never a good idea. Don't risk it.
The pod is ADORABLE and I will be making some!
