Appliqué is a french word. this means it is pronounced 'app-leeee-kay' not 'appli-kay'.

Also the plural of appliqué is 'appliqués' not 'appliqué's'.

  • komirra wrote on February 23, 10:28 am

good idea. something the apps look even better if u whip stitch a complementary or contrasting color around the outside of the scarf.

  • curleQ94 (anon) wrote on February 23, 5:08 pm

make an episode on how to sketch fashion! please! Or how to make a simple shirt pattern! for all those wanna be fashion designers!

  • em24711 wrote on February 23, 9:38 pm

    please

  • thinlizard wrote on February 26, 4:02 pm

    yes, I agree

  • sourcreamdreamteam (anon) wrote on February 29, 8:58 pm

YES YES and YES!! There definitely needs to be a fashion sketching show in the works! I've tried to emulate how professional designers sketch but I think I need to draw in my own style. If you could just do a show on the basics of fashion design/sketching or even suggest a book to read on the subject...it would be so killer.

  • emily.. (anon) wrote on February 23, 7:03 pm

guys you are awsome!!!oh,please listen to me and make an episode on how to make old trousers trendy

  • MandyInk (anon) wrote on February 23, 7:41 pm

  • corinneleigh (anon) wrote on February 23, 11:17 pm

i got mine at buffalo exchange. xoxo

  • elleira (anon) wrote on February 24, 1:13 pm

Corinne, I thought you'd appreciate this, I saw it when checking out Buffalo Exchange: http://www.buffaloexchange.com/bulletins_det.php?Bulletin_ID=743 They are taking donations of old furs to give to the Humane Society for use as bedding for orphaned and injured wildlife! It almost makes me wish I had some fur!

  • Jenny (anon) wrote on February 24, 12:54 am

To make your boring coat unique, you could always add some thick top stitching in a contrasting color.

  • knitwench (anon) wrote on February 24, 3:53 pm

You may want to keep your Pee coat plain and use multiple accessories instead. Once you change the coat you're stuck with it. Think "little black dress", I have one dress but about six toppers, which change the look completely. Try scarves, wimples, shawls, muffs, and anything else you can think of. Rule of thumb - basics in neutrals, accessories in anything/everything.

  • crafty chica (anon) wrote on February 24, 6:10 pm

love it!! love it! sending mucho glitter your way!

you are just amazing, guys. these ideas are great, as always. (: and i'm really looking forward to next week. prom - sounds interesting.

  • treehousecreations wrote on February 25, 2:53 pm

I love doing appliques they add alot to something plain. So I was wondering about batiking. Got any good info on how to batik?

  • cooldudeloverboy (anon) wrote on February 25, 9:09 pm

I'm kinda a loser and every attempt at "getting the girl" has been futile. So if Rob dosen't want to go and I need a date I figure we'd be perfect for each other. So, Corinne...Will you go to prom with me? ;)

  • Andrew (anon) wrote on February 26, 12:06 pm

    Can I donate?

  • pigglewiggins wrote on February 27, 4:22 pm

Appliques rock. I think I have some of that fusible interfacing around here somewhere. Add some beads and sequins to those appliques and bling happens!

  • sewthernbelle wrote on March 2, 5:30 pm

    haha! Rob! That was cold...

  • sewittogether (anon) wrote on March 3, 4:17 pm

The piece of paper won't go on fire?! Im so afraid i will burn my house down if i try!!!!!!!!

  • Connor (anon) wrote on March 9, 8:32 pm

When you are using the printing method were you print off the computer and iron it on can you do it on a black shirt?

  • punkergirldemon wrote on March 30, 4:14 am

is there a way to not get the white part of the design on thats on the paper the shirt if its a colored shirt?>_>

  • rosieposie wrote on July 1, 9:12 pm

if your concerned with the white edges, it is easy to cut closer to the design, to avoid the frame effect
    hope it helps!!

  • camilaustral wrote on June 28, 11:32 pm

hi! i loved this video!! (first time posting)
i want to know what is that paper you use that sticks to the fabric when ironing, i think its a great idea.
i hope you can be very explicative , because i speak spanish and i'm from Chile, so i can ask in the stores by describing the paper if they don't know the name at the shop. thank you so much! i always have a great time watching the videos :)
    saludos!

  • applimaster (guest) wrote on July 5, 12:58 am

A much easier way to appliqué is to buy them already made. At applicuts.com you can choose from a range of appliqué designs and then they are laser cut and sent to you. No tracing and cutting required, and they come with a fusible backing on them. You can even email them designs and they'll cut them out for you. It means you can do much more intricate designs with no effort at all!

BTW When you apply the appliqué to your clothes or quilt you should use steam on your iron. This gives a much better result then a dry iron. Of course when you are initially apply the fusible web you should use a dry iron as shown in the video.

  • transamchic99 wrote on July 10, 6:39 pm

I was wondering about iron ons and screen printing. I am trying to get a symbol on a shirt that I have to dye the color I want. Would it be easier to screen print or iron the symbol on?
The symbol is a horseshoe. The fabric is going to be royal blue jersey cotton.
    sooo...Pretty much which is better?
    THANKS!!
