THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Patterns used to scare me! :D

  • Meg wrote on March 7, 6:22 pm

HOLY AWESOME! This is brilliant for the pattern-challenged sewers, like myself. Burda Style answered SO many of my questions, thank you!

My parents think I'm crazy too, don't worry!

And lastly, killer prom dress Sweet Melody. Molly Ringwald would be very impressed.

  • graymalking wrote on March 7, 6:26 pm

ALL RIGHT! Threadbangers EVERY-FREKEN-DAY!!!!! OOHOOOO! Oh, the joy!

And thank you so much for this episode! It is SO downloaded!

  • waffle (anon) wrote on March 7, 6:43 pm

This is episode is just what I needed to get the courage to make stuff from patterns!
And I'm super excited about next week.. Whee!

  • Erica (anon) wrote on March 7, 7:04 pm

Is shirt Nora wearing from a burda pattern? I don't recognize it but I love it. :(

  • Nora wrote on March 10, 1:30 am

Erica - yes, the shirt I am wearing is from our site, but - it's now available for download yet. It'll be in a few weeks! It's a user design by the way....

  • Nora wrote on March 10, 12:27 pm

Oops - I meant it's NOT available for download yet. Once I get back to New York, I will check the editorial calendar and tell you when!

  • sewing_sophist wrote on March 7, 7:20 pm

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! A show every single day?!?!?!?!? Wishes DO come true!!!!!!!!

I usually do pretty well with patterns anyway, but I'll definitely have to download some from Burda...thaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnkkkkk yoooouuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Albert wrote on March 7, 8:21 pm

I'm sorry I'm using this space to rant, but I have to. Why are men so ignored in DIY? That sewing pattern tutorial would've been useful if any I could use any of the patterns on burda style. From the looks of it, everything in the compai books is for women, and the same goes for most other DIY books. This is starting to piss me off. I love DIY but I can't use most of what I find online.

  • thinlizard wrote on March 7, 8:37 pm

i have the t shirt and jean compai books, they do have a couple of dude things but not a lot.(I wouldn't suggest buying them there are only one or two)... and another book that has a couple of patterns would be the orange one ummmm, can't remember the name they have metioned it on here tho........ sry tho, i feel 4 ya......

  • Albert wrote on March 7, 9:10 pm

Thanks for the sympathy. Hopefully, this one meager comment will help spur the long overdue men's DIY fashion revolution.

  • shy_lion wrote on March 7, 10:28 pm

As I fellow male, I feel your pain. I find that the way for me to bear it, is to take the *ideas* behind a lot of the stuff for the ladies, and transfer those to something for myself. FYI, the diy sweater the Compai ladies made... you could make a really cool military-inspired vest for guys in a similar way... I guess it just means we fellas have to be that little bit more creative. :)

  • shy_lion wrote on March 7, 10:29 pm

FYI is supposed to be "For example". My brain isn't working. Blah.

  • Albert wrote on March 8, 2:01 am

Thanks. Now if I only liked anything military inspired.

  • Erica (anon) wrote on March 8, 8:36 am

Not to sound rude but did you ever think that doing something about it rather then complaining might be a lot better?

  • shy_lion wrote on March 8, 8:38 am

It was just example... it doesn't have to military inspired.

  • Julie (anon) wrote on March 8, 9:09 am

WOMEN came up with WOMEN diy that you find online! Thats why when you look it up, it's mostly girl stuff. That's the point. Girls shouldn't need to make up stuff for dudes, why would we do that? COME UP WITH YOUR OWN! You like DIY so much, why is it so hard to figure it out on your own?

  • komirra wrote on March 8, 8:01 pm

harsh!!! even fron a womens point of view. i kinda agree with the guys. there really isn't alot of diy for guys. maybe threadb could start a weekly show for guys likethey do with home decor. the guys could submit cool diy ideas they have the show and whola!! a new show just for guys. maybe it could be man monday. ok so thats not great but u get the idea.

  • Julie (anon) wrote on March 9, 3:30 pm

Ok, so it was a little harsh. But I mean, come on! You can't feel sorry for the boys! Why are they saying that they like DIYing, but have to complain about not being able to copy the shows ideas for themselves? Theres plenty of shows that yes, are for girls, but can be modified a bit to be for guys! Use your imagination!! Thats the point of DIY, am I right?

  • Nora wrote on March 10, 1:31 am

Hey Albert - we are posting our first men's pattern this week! Actually, today, Monday!

  • shy_lion wrote on March 10, 4:08 am

Yeah, I'm with you. I mean, I can understand the frustration when all the tutorials etc are aimed at the ladies, but the basics of DIY is universal... Don't feel sorry for us guys, because if we're truly worth the salt, we can take the ideas and make our own stuff. Heaps of the women's stuff that have come up on Threadbanger have given me great ideas of what to do for a guy's version. It's all about using the noggin!

  • shy_lion wrote on March 10, 4:08 am

Man... I wish there was an "edit" button for these... I always forget to proof read...

  • Benedikta (guest) wrote on November 19, 3:08 pm

Definitely, we have more and more men's patterns on our site, come and check out BurdaStyle.com

thankyou so much! i never thought my question would ever get chosen, thousands of people ask questions and i got chosen, thank you!

  • curleq94 (anon) wrote on March 7, 8:58 pm

I have heard people tell me that you could never ask too many questions, so i was wondering if you could please, show an episode on how to sketch fashions! so many people out there have no idea how to sketch, i need some starters, thanks!

  • grainline (anon) wrote on March 8, 2:24 am

grainlines... is the way the fabric is weaved so it is along with the selvedge... the selvedge is the edge of the fabirc that is tightly woven. i think that is a better explanation...no?

  • Nora wrote on March 10, 1:33 am

Thanks - we are not native speakers and sometimes we suffer from lack of words, your explanation is super!

  • vexx_101 wrote on March 8, 2:56 am

  • JMM (anon) wrote on March 10, 12:04 am

    Hello,
I just found this website and of coarse it rocked my world! I am crazy about sewing and creating. I feel that self expression is one of the most important things in life. Unfortunately it may not be so easy for most of us out there to express ourselves with the clothes that corporations provide us with. So I encourage everyone to support small businesses, boutiques, and creating your own style any way possible.
Thank you so much for this site.
    -JMM-
Ps: There is a pattern book by Injoo Kim that is really great and easily understood. There is also a book called The Art of Manipulating Fabric by Coelette Wolf.

Patterns, Burda Style, Compai Book Release Party, Thread Heads

The pattern. Both beautiful and complicated. This week were taking the cue from CurleQ94 and hangin with the ladies of Burda Style for a helpful pattern lesson, plus were celebrating with the ladies of Compai at their new book opening in Brooklyn.
