I love learning about printing, but...
What kind of ink was used - just the printers ink you buy in an art supply, or is there a special ink for use on fabric?

    I love Etsy!

  • corinneleigh (guest) wrote on May 9, 2:40 pm

i use "Speedball fabric screen printing ink" which you can find at almost any art supply store. xo c

Super cool episode, but what I really am noticing is the new layout of the site, and Corinne's edgy haircut as well as rocking shrug/wrap thing. tres cool.

  • makealife (guest) wrote on May 10, 12:27 pm

i love your shrug too. did you make it? if so i would love to know how!!!

But twas an awesome eppy, as usual. XD

  • Holly (guest) wrote on May 9, 9:16 pm

Corinne, I love your sweater-wrap-thing...Haha. It looks great!
I'd join the contest, but my sewing machine (5 bucks form my neighbor's garage sale!) works perfectly fine for me... I'd rather it go to someone who's sewing-machine-less. :)
    Your guys' videos are inspiring!

And loving the shrug and hair cut!

I really wanna win that sewing machine cuz the one I have works liek crap..I cant count how many projects its screwed up on and I had to throw up because of its flaws!!!! but I dont have a video camera to upload my transmission :(

    Anyways awesome episode guys!

  • jESSICa (guest) wrote on May 10, 9:55 am

Did you change your video format? It takes forever now to download and play. I've never had this problem before... it happens with Decor It too... If there is already an answer out there to this question would you please direct me to the link?? I love your show and I can hardly stand watching it start and stop and stall over and over.... It drives me mad. I have to turn the volume off and walk away and come back a half an hour later to see it totally loaded. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! ;-)

  • KiraVonConcrete wrote on May 12, 9:36 am

Sometimes that happens to me, too, and I just click pause and let it download while I hum a Queens of the Stone Age song and sort thru my fabric collection. Heh. Anticipation makes THs even sweeter.

  • JaymieKarn wrote on May 10, 11:23 am

I love this method of screen printing! But I looked online at a couple of my fave art stores, and I can't find contact paper! Where would you get it? Or what could you use instead?

  • ladyjanewriter (guest) wrote on May 12, 2:14 am

@ JaymieKarn - Contact Paper is just that sticky shelf paper. You can try con-tac brand. I've found it at Ace Hardware or similar hardware stores, or even the dollar store.

FYI: The Contact Paper Stencil method also works with fabric paint! :0) I just tried it yesterday with Jacquard fabric paint. I tried their Lumiere paint (b/c it's sparkly).

All I had to do is dab it on with a cosmetic sponge, it works great! You just kind of "pounce" the sponge straight up and down, and keep loading paint on the sponge until you have as much paint as you want on the tee.

Now I'm just letting it dry for 24 hours, and I'm gonna heat set it with an iron.

  • ladyjanewriter (guest) wrote on May 12, 2:15 am

Oh! I just stuck the con-tac paper straight to my shirt! Hee. That method works OK as well.

  • mar (guest) wrote on May 10, 11:37 am

yeah! whoo! loven the hair corinne! and i want your shirt!...hmm...tutorial?...lol.... rob love the bandana! awsome eppy!

hmm maybe i need a new machine....*looks all over for the video camera*

    loves, mar

    -agrees with everyone else-

i loveeee the contact paper screen printing idea :) and am super siked about the new contest

  • Graphicgrapes (guest) wrote on May 10, 9:29 pm

Love the new hair cut, especially love the fact that Rob rocks that Gogol Bordello T.

  • sewthernbelle wrote on May 11, 2:13 pm

So in essence...you could make the screen printing hoop as seen in episode 13...but leave out the mod podge, and just use the contact paper so you could use only one screen over and over again. I love it!

    Nice new format BTW...
so any serger episodes coming up yet?

  • corinneleigh (guest) wrote on May 12, 7:53 pm

serger episode coming up next week!

    Hi everyone!!
Since I found you I'm a threadbanger addicted!!!!I can't wait for your next podcast!!!You're absolutely GREAT!!!
I love doing things by myself since I was a child I have a real passion for decorating things with buttons with different shapes and colour. They add a funnny bright look to everything!
Here in Italy there's nothing like your show. THANKS A LOT FOR WHAT YOU DO!!
I've two last things to ask you: i'm in DESPERATE search of a tutorial I lost because of iTunes.
It was about a nice waivy scarf made from a pair of old trousers with an elastic band you could wrap around your neck or your waist…PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND THAT EPISODE.

And the very last request: could you give some good tips about stabilizers for my sewing/embroidery machine and where I can I buy them at a good price. Also because i have to take into consideration the shipping costs.
Here in Italy is a real treasure hunt ! Surfing the net I found some sites about them but I’m sure you’ll give me the best one!!!! ohhhh...i'm searching also that nice green measurement surface with the grid to drow line perfectly because i'm a real DISASTER with my rulers...AHahahahahahaha

Hope to hear from you soon.Lots of love and thanks once more!!!!!
    'Till then…KEEP SEWING! xoxoxo

I just got bangs too. Now it's a movement.
The contact paper is going to be a lifesaver for me. It's easy to get from any dollar store in my area. My screen printing kit said to use 'freezer paper'. I haven't been able to find that anywhere. I already made an Etsy shop for silkscreened t-shirts and then I couldn't find the freezer paper. You've saved me now.

  • pigglewiggins wrote on May 15, 4:58 pm

The contact paper worked great. I wrote all about it in my blog but I guess you can't post links here. I'll put the photos up on my flicker account too. Thanks Better Than Jam and Threadbanger.

  • dan (guest) wrote on May 15, 5:45 pm

excuse, but what is the main use of contact paper, i mean for what is it usually used ?

  • JoshyLee (guest) wrote on May 18, 5:39 pm

Nice Gogol Bordello shirt. I'm a huge fan. Did you make it or buy it?

  • sokool14 wrote on May 19, 9:44 pm
