    HOLY FREAKING CRAP COCKROACHES!

  • KiraVonConcrete wrote on June 13, 5:07 pm

Stippling hint: if you meander your stitches and do not cross over the stitch lines, you create a more puckered surface. If you cross over, less puckering.
Obviously, the best thing to do is experiment and figure out what you like best. Have fun!

  • tweti wrote on June 16, 11:23 pm

    huh?

  • UnusedUsername wrote on June 13, 12:41 pm

I really loved the fashion show and the tutorial, will do it... but this is not my favorite show... I love all the shows and it would be hard to pick a favorite.

I guess an idea would be to do some shoe stuff. I dont think there has been a show yet on shoes.

  • corinneleigh (guest) wrote on June 13, 12:55 pm

shoes are a great idea. we are trying to find a good DIY shoe maker...if anyone knows one let us know!
    xoxo c

  • KiraVonConcrete wrote on June 13, 4:40 pm

Hey Diana Rupp at MAKE Workshop used to have a shoe-making class. Maybe she can inspire.

  • corinneleigh (guest) wrote on June 15, 2:39 pm

great idea! i'm going to ask her about it.

  • DIYdiva (guest) wrote on June 13, 12:46 pm

WOW! That fashion show was amazing. Wonderful editing! I loved the song that was playing during it.

sorry its called turkish march. i was momentarily confused

  • Lindsey (guest) wrote on June 13, 12:56 pm

Wow, that darning foot tip is awesome. I love the fact that it looks so intricate in the end, but looks so easy to do. Plus, even if you mess up the pattern, it will still look really cool!

  • Moonlightmaiden wrote on June 13, 1:16 pm

    Corinne
Cool roach bling! LOL~ now I've seen it all!!
I heard you got a serger! So did I but I need help!
    I got a Janome craft master 110 from Freecycle~!!!!
Yeah!! For freee!!! But it did not come with instuctions,
can we get a tutorial on seting up the thread~n~needles?
It is not anything like my old sewing machine. Help!?!?!
    Thanks!

  • corinneleigh (guest) wrote on June 15, 2:42 pm

a lot of peeps have been asking about a serger lesson and i am happy to announce that we will be doing one! not in this week's episode but the one after.

i love finding treasures like that!
    xoxo c

  • Moonlightmaiden wrote on June 17, 1:06 pm

    Thanks a million (*^_^*)
I will be very happily waiting for your serger lesson!!!
Were they wearing wigs or their hair was really dyed?!?
Great show!! Do you know if there is many DIY craft shows
in IL?? I feel like chicago is not much of a DYI Kinda town.
We are living here now but I dont know about the DIY scene.
Once again will totally be watching for your up coming
    shows!
    Your faithful viewer,

  • KellesBelles wrote on June 13, 1:21 pm

Thanks for the shirt lesson! Now I just need to get my hands on one of those feet for my machine...because I definitely want to try this out!

    Great show...as always!

  • rainingcatsandwaffles wrote on June 13, 1:22 pm

oh my gosh!!!!! a pet roach!!!! so gross and cool at the same time!!!!

I love how the shirt came out in the end!!! i have to try it!

    *runs away inspired*

  • Meg wrote on June 13, 2:14 pm

holy crazy pet! i am so blown away.

    BEST "screen shot" yet. ha.

I LOVE THIS TUT! I will totally do that to a shirt.

  • Create and Destroy wrote on June 13, 2:24 pm

Just to comfort you all before everyone starts freakin out about the roaches...the glue they use is fruit based and the cockroaches are saved from a breeder that uses them for animal feed. Plus People like Kelly give roaches like Taco a good home.

  • Meg wrote on June 13, 2:59 pm

    AND his name is Taco?

    a) hahahaha.

and b) bravo to the rescuing of ANY creature big or small. cute or gross.

  • Elle wrote on June 13, 2:36 pm

I love the animal masks on the models. It was, in my opinion, the best aspect of the show.

Also, I REALLY LOVE the shirt. It is more than fabulous.

  • meemao (guest) wrote on June 13, 2:39 pm

i wish you guys have NEW episode EVERYDAY! this is awesome.

  • corinneleigh (guest) wrote on June 16, 10:20 am

    that is our goal!

  • KellesBelles wrote on June 17, 1:33 pm

I agree! I wanna see more Thread Heads during the week. Once isn't enough!

  • ink_bottle wrote on June 13, 2:54 pm

That fashoin show looked awesome! I love the shirt idea too, it'll go on my to do list once i have/find a T shirt to use. Just in time too, I bought a sewing machinge at a garage sale for six bucks (and it works perfectly)!

  • MorganMoore (guest) wrote on June 13, 2:57 pm

Hey threadbangers! I have SOOOOOOOO many plastic bags from when we go food shopping...WHAT CAN I DO WITH THEM?!?! Please help me out! It takes too long for these to decompose!
    THANKS SO MUCH!
    Peace,
    Morgan

  • KiraVonConcrete wrote on June 13, 3:55 pm

HaHAHAHAha i was just going to say:
I LOVE Jonathan's plastic bag boa! Brilliant! THAT's what you can do w/ all those pesky plastic bags. If we look at it hard enough maybe we can figure it out. Otherwise, we need a tute.
diy or dye! I mean die!
    xo

  • sewho (guest) wrote on June 14, 6:27 pm

you asked about what to make with plastic bags?
a while back i think someone on the forum crocheted them to make an awesome purse, but i've also heard of people crocheting them to make rugs. Another idea is that you put wax paper on either side of a "plastic bag sandwitch" and iron a 3-4 bags together (you should do a test run first and see how thick you want it). then use your sewing machine and stitch them together to make a cool and very sturdy bag! (i've tried this, and it actually turned out pretty cool)
Also, for ideas for a new show... come to Canada! Toronto and Montreal have a GREAT vintage scene and there are tons of cool markets and designers that sell handmade and organic clothing, food, and house-ware. !

  • sewmysoul (guest) wrote on June 13, 3:02 pm

TTLY loved the fashion show. The masks rocked, and I loved the tut!!!!

Question, could (instead of buying the new foot for your machine) simply but the feed dog down and keep the presser foot up???

OH and if you haven't hear of the fight boring contest that savers is having you need to check it out.

    Keep it up threadbangers.

  • __marlee wrote on June 13, 3:11 pm

i really want one of those cocarocahes more than anything. I love the episodes where you guysgive tutorils on how to create things... or other people do. either way, i find it more stimulating to create rather than to watch.

  • __marlee wrote on June 13, 3:13 pm

and i agree with memo. New episodes everyday would be freaking AMAZING

  • __marlee wrote on June 13, 3:15 pm

oh and this is my last post on this i promise but i have A TON of scraps and i want to make like a dress with them but i dont want it to look tacky and i dont really know where to begin? thanks!

  • V (guest) wrote on June 13, 3:16 pm

Good episode, but the editing of the fashion show didn't showcase the pieces terribly well. Too much fast forwarding and choppiness, there was hardly a chance to look at the detail in the overall outfit.

  • KiraVonConcrete wrote on June 13, 4:01 pm

I've tried that. Either the machine won't stitch at all (because it knows the presser foot's not down) or if it does stitch, the thread, esp from the bobbin, will get all messed up and tangled because the presser foot is like the link from top thread to bobbin thread. The darning foot is a fun thing- it holds down the fabric just enough so that the stitches are good and you can move the fabric wherever you want.

  • KiraVonConcrete wrote on June 13, 4:03 pm

whoops I totally put this in the wrong place. Supposed to be five comms up at sewmysoul 's comment.
    Shorry.

  • KiraVonConcrete wrote on June 13, 4:04 pm

HERE's what I wanted to say re: this comment. While I love the editing so so so much (geeenius) it's sometimes hard to see something...but here's the brilliance of video players: THE PAUSE BUTTON! YAY!

  • Dan (guest) wrote on June 14, 2:53 pm

In a video showcasing the outfits, you shouldn't NEED to pause to be able to see them... kind of defeats the purpose of the segment. So while the editing looked cool, it wasn't the best idea for that kind of coverage.

  • Elizabeth.k. (guest) wrote on June 13, 3:32 pm

OMG my bubble dresss is in here omg omg omg :D

i am so going to make one of those shirts now :D

  • lisy (guest) wrote on June 13, 4:40 pm

  • summer (guest) wrote on June 13, 5:12 pm

Hey it would be really cool if you guys would do a DIY wedding section! (Isn't Meg from Decor... engaged? she MUST have some ideas)
    Thanks, this site is great!

  • fanfanfan (guest) wrote on June 13, 6:35 pm

you could do a segment on japanese street fashion
they make a lot of their own clothes and customize pretty much everything
some of the things they wear are a little out there but i think that is what makes it so awesome
but even if you don't plan on doing anything on it you should most def look it up anyway because i bet you could get some inspiration from lots of it

  • SoupyGeorge wrote on June 13, 7:15 pm

oh thank god i wasn't the only one who noticed Audry Kitching. How does the stick and pucker look if it is ironed down? I think it would look cool, but I don't know.

  • Clint Catalyst (guest) wrote on June 14, 6:24 pm

Yep. She's walked in his last three shows, actually.

I haven't checked to see if it's still up, but there *was* a video of an appearance made earlier that day on a show called "Good Things Utah."

In the clip, Jared and I do an 'open call' for Walking Sticks (my term for runway girls-- natch, with fondest affections implied...some of the "modules" are my close friends), and both Audrey and YouTube star Stevie Ryan join us on camera, with two outfits shown in great detail.

If you Google "Good Things Utah," it'll lead you to the site where (I'm hoping) the clip still exists among the recent archives?

(Got my claws crossed on this end...)

    Best Regards,
    CCx

    Aloha Corinne!

Hi - first time leaving a message here. I was wondering...on that stipple shirt, how did you finish off the bottom? Or do you just leave it as it is?

I just found your site & I love it so far! Thanks for sharing your knowledge & inspiring me to be more creative.

    Mahalos!

  • Human wrote on June 13, 7:59 pm

I really enjoied this fashion show, this style is just my sort of thing. I say more designers in the spotlight! I love hearing about different kinds of style and the inspiration behind it all-also the designer tutorials!

  • Noir wrote on June 13, 8:12 pm

I'm new to threadbangers and I have to say you guys never cease to inspire me. I really enjoyed the fashion show. His style is just incredible.

Seeing as how its a pretty hot summer I'd like to see some more tips on how to stay cool. I've already cut slits into a bunch of t-shirts and it's doing the trick. But, a few more tips would be awesome.

  • DIYdiva (guest) wrote on June 26, 1:12 pm

I REALLY need something to wear over my bathing suit. I want to make something that doesn't take a lot of time and uses old stuff. PLEASE help me!

  • lizzaerie wrote on June 13, 8:27 pm

Has anyone else seen the commercial where the girls boyfriend knits like crazy and her friend is is hating on him until she shows off this awesome knit bikini/bra? I'd love to see a tutorial on how to make that. With a layer of matching fabric sewn underneath you could make a killer bikini for the summer.

  • April Pie wrote on June 13, 8:28 pm

Cool tee shirt puckering lesson but I want to point out that you shouldn't have to take the presser-foot off of you're going to unscrew the stem piece too! that just makes for one more thing to loose. can't you just take them off together?

  • humblebumbleb wrote on June 13, 10:04 pm

  • knitwench wrote on June 14, 6:25 pm

To get an even more pronounced scrunching use elastic thread in the bobbin. You have to wind it onto the bobbin by hand, very important, then sew as usual. Straight lines of this is how they do the pregathered material sold for sundresses. You can make your own in any fabric you want. Also, stippling is not supposed to cross over itself, but I wont tell.

  • corinneleigh (guest) wrote on June 16, 1:53 pm

they (the animal rights activists) are right here.
those roaches come from a producer who breeds them for feed or bait. essentially they are rescued roaches who otherwise be feed to other animals. the crystals are applied using a fruit based glue by a jared gold roach wrangler each time some one buys one. its just like putting a pet dog or cat on a leash.
if you are against them you also have to be against people who walk their dog.

Definitely love the stipple shirt - going to have to try that one out if I can figure out the darning feature. In my internet travels in search of DIY shoemakers (I'm always on the lookout for them too), I found something interesting. Patagonia actually put out a shoe called DIY that you put together yourself. I totally love the concept. There's a video here - http://www.thecleanestline.com/2007/03/diy_wtf.html.

I'm not really a knitter (yet), but I've seen a magazine (and I can't remember which one, sorry) with tutorials on knitting shoes. That's probably the closest I've seen.

It sort of irks me how a guy can take all this stuff mainstream and get credited as being "genius" when women have been doing this stuff for years. It's like when guys cook, they get gourmet chef status, whatever...

anyway, I suppose it's nice seeing more guys doing stuff like this, spreading the good word. The cockroach schtick? well, someone was going to do it eventually.

Rant aside, the fashion looked pretty good. Same stuff I've been seeing out on the street being DIY'd since late 70s. Good job, Gold. I did enjoy the masks on the backs of heads.

Major props out to Rob and Corrine for their awesome coverage and the killer "how-to's" detailed here, as usual. Peace!

Hi! I've known and loved threadbanger since the very beginning, and this episode is awesome! I was wondering, how to sew a patch on the sleeve of a hoodie or something else with heavy fabric with my machine. I handsewed for 5 years before I got my first machine, so I can just handsew the patch but machine sewing is so much faster. How do I maneuver my hoodie so that the machine sews on the patch on the arm but not sew the sleeves shut?
    Thanks
    Keep creating!
    Z

I would die if I had a cockroach pinned to me.
No, literally I would die I'm very allergic to them.

I saw a cockroach on another movie. They had jewels on them such as diamonds and rubies worth alot of money. Love the shirt. It's defenitely a cool way to make a T fir better.
