Message on a T-Shirt

POSTED BY Blake Robinson, 22 August 2007

Message Tees are an American classic. A few years back, the message T-shirt suddenly popped up again. First gaining popularity in the 1970s, message T-shirts had a definite “rebirth” a few years back.

The I Heart New York T-shirt has become a truly recognizable symbol. In fact, it is so well known that it has inspired more than its fair share of knock-offs and copycats. Message T-shirts, like the I Heart New York T-shirt, are a great way to enhance your look. They are also very versatile and can be bought or made.

To buy message T-shirts I usually turn to Web sites that specialize in funny sayings, but there are also Web sites that allow you to personalize your message. The great thing about message T-shirts is that they express you.

When I want to make message T-shirts I usually go to the local craft store and pick up a T-shirt and iron on letters. All you need to complete a T-shirt using this method is a hot iron. Just place the letters where you want and run the iron over them. Voila! Some other options for decorating your T-shirt include fabric glue, patches, buttons sequins, stamps, paint and sponges.

    Or.....
Why not make your own velcro any message t-shirt?!

Sew/glue a couple of strips of fuzzy (eye) side of velcro to a plain black t-shirt.
Cut up a strip of rough (hook) side of velcro into squares and paint a letter on each (you can use any paint - it doesn't have to be washable). You can use stencils, stamps or freehand - white works best on black velcro.

    You may want to do more of some letters - E, A, O, S, T, R N, etc.....

And there you are - have sooo much fun creating your own messages for any occasion! Express whatever you're feeling to the world....all on your chest.

These T-shirts are for sale in loads of places in the UK, but are so easy to make yourself! See: http://www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk/gifts-for-men/unusual-gadgets/mens-velcro-letter-text-tee-shirt.html

You can experiment with other stuff too- put velcro on the back of anything and stick it to your t-shirt!

    Lovin your work x x x
