what type of string did you use

My Grandma used to make these beads out of old strips of wall paper. It made them strong and you just used water to stick them together!

i thought this was creative and so cool. im gonna rock them with my kicks. good work .more ideas u have on makin jewelry like with metal or pendants would be awesome.

the big beads can be used to make a giant waistlace haha,or a belt

Try making beads with brown paper grocery bags. They look like wood. Use some white glue and a brush to really wet them down with glue. You can even put some clear acrylic finish on them. Haven't tried staining them, but I would expect that you could water down some burnt sienna or burnt umber paint and use that.

Cool, but what happens if it rains? or if you sweat a lot? How do you deal with moisture damage - id really hate to put that much effort into something and have it get destroyed easily. Would you reccomend any kind of varnish or paint-on material that would add some water/moisture resistance? How about normal paint varnish, just a light coat to preserve the beads? Thanks!

My friend and i used to do this during the summer. It's a great way to use old catalogs and things. To reinforce them we added clear or sparkly nail polish on the outside

Hm...I wonder if this'd also work with little fabric scraps? I bet it would! Hrrm.

You can also use a coffee straw to keep the hole open because the glue will not stick to plastic. For a change, make the same style of bead out of fabric and add curly Q's with bead wire.
