Celebrity DIY Style: Michelle Obama

Unlike (recent) first ladies before her, Michelle Obama has not revealed what she will be wearing to Tuesday's Inaugural Ball. No matter her choice, what our future first lady selects will set the tone for the presidency. With Michelle's innate sense of style, I suspect, whatever she wears will not only be praised, but coppied in both the ready-to-wear and pattern making market. Any doubt? She's already inspired designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Michael Kors and Diane von Furstenberg to submit their gown sketches to Women's Wear Daily.
Since we have no idea what Michelle Obama will be wearing in just a few short hours, it's only appropriate to knock off her most famous dress - The Donna Ricco sundress that she wore on The View (after the show, White House Black Market sold 2700 dresses of this style). If you remember back in July, I briefly discussed this dress. However, at the time, there was not a pattern available that could successfully recreate this style without modifications. Since then, Simplicity has released 2703 - a perfect knock-off if made in black and white! [photos via WWD]
