Weekly DIY Roundup: Movie Costume and Accessory Projects!

To celebrate Oscar week, but even more so because of my love of the Coraline knitwear, I'm bringing you a roundup of movie costume/accessory projects this week! But the thing about this roundup is that I know there are so many more great projects and patterns out there that I just can't find, so I want to add on throughout the weekend - up until the Oscars on Sunday, any projects that fit the description that you tell me about in the comments will get added into the roundup! I'm excited to grow this list, since I've been searching all over the internet for days and these are all I could find!

So Stacy just posted about the Coraline knitting (amazing!) and I had a fun time finding the pdf pattern for the human sized sweater pattern (designed by Jenn Jarvis) hidden in Coraline's bedroom on the movie website - while I was there I got some button eyes in the Other Mother's Workshop! But I was also happy to find that Tika Belle designed human sized gloves from the movie!

I already posted about Bella's mittens from Twilight in my mittens roundup a little while back, Bella's crocheted hat in my hat roundup part 1, and one pattern for Lyra's hood from The Golden Compass in part 3 of my hats roundup... but there are several different versions of that hood, including one by Froggie Meanie Designs, and this one by Parallax Knitting:

Parallax Knitting also designed a pattern for Lyra's coat from the same movie:

Harry Potter movies are super common for knit and crochet designs (just do a search and see how many there are!) - I like this lacy crochet scarf based on Luna's by Karrying Kolor on knittinghelp.com:

Elitistcritic shared her pattern for a scarf based on this amazing one from the movie Penelope:

This is from a TV show instead of a movie, but it's super popular so I think worth sharing - there are tons of patterns out there by different designers for Jayne's hat from Firefly. I've never seen the show, but I love the hat!! This particular one is by Yarntender (download the pdf at the top of the page):

This crocheted hat on Nadine's Patterns, based on the one worn by Norah Jones in My Blueberry Nights, is super cute:

Alleycatscratch.com has a pattern for Pippin's knit scarf from Lord of the Rings:

Theresa Belville designed patterns based on hats worn by Kirsten Dunst in two different movies - Spiderman 2 and Elizabethtown. They are available in a free pdf download, but you just have to enter in your address and stuff as if you're buying it. This version was knit by Leeann of Wool & Chocolate:

Hello Yarn has a pattern for this sweater inspired by the one worn by Samuel L. Jackson in the movie 51st State (Formula 51):

I absolutely love this amazing sweater based on the one in About A Boy, recreated by Knitbot. No pattern for this one, but I'm sure it could inspire some great projects - I'm thinking embellishing a recycled sweater with appliques and embroidery.... hmm......

Nightmare Before Christmas is one of the best craft-inspiring movies out there, especially the character Sally, and some great Halloween costumes can be found, like this couple as the Mayor of Halloween Town and Sally, and GrindHouseHussy19's Sally on craftster:

A couple years ago for halloween, I was Mary Tyler Moore and I knit myself a stripey beret based on hers in the opening credits! (I've never written up a pattern for this one, but it's pretty basic if you're familiar with knitting hats.)

In my searching, I found this flickr group called movie crochet - there's not much on it, but if you crochet anything from a movie you could join the group and add to it! And one last movie-related crafty tidbit - if you're a knitter who likes references to knitting in films, I recommend checking out the Japanese movie Wool 100% - awesome!
If you know of any movie-inspired projects out there in the blog world, please comment! I'd love to add more sewing projects, or any crafts in addition to knitting and crochet. I especially am looking to add projects with tutorials or free patterns. Hope you enjoy the roundup, and thanks for any more you can add to it!!
