Celebrity DIY Style: Oscar Accessories

By now you've either seen last night's Oscar Red Carpet arrivals and\or the best and worst dressed list from the program, so I'll spare you the rehash (however, if you're interested in what celebrity wore which desiger, you can read the list here). Instead of focusing on the dresses, let's talk about what was on the arm of almost every celebrity last night. No, I'm not talking about a handsome date, I'm talking about the accessories! One of the hottest items strutting down the red carpet last night were the teeny, tiny clutches that looked just big enough to carry the essentials.
If you have a special occasion coming up where a small bag is all you need, there are several options to recreate this celebrity accessory. One option is working with a commercial pattern. Vogue has a variety of clutches (and wristlets) in 8524, while Kwik Sew has numerous options in the 'crafts' section of their pattern catalog. Another option is working with an online tutorial... and there are tons to choose from! Some of my favorites included U-handbag's Rather Cheeky Wistlet, Amy Butler's Clutch with Antique Pin, and these tutorials found on Craftster: The Classy Pleated Iridescent Clutch, Brown Pleated Classy Clutch, and Clutch, Clutch, Clutch. The best thing about all these little purses is that they call for very little fabric - perfect for using up stashed scraps or even splurging on luxurious material!
