Book Review: Button It Up

I was so excited to finally receive this book, after having known it was coming out for many months before its release, and having been getting more and more into buttons in the last year or so. Susan Beal's Button It Up is a gorgeous book, filled with buttony eye-candy, as well as how-tos for all kinds of great projects! It starts out with button history, style, and types - I love to know more about my favorite crafting supplies, so interesting!

And then we're given a techniques section with great illustrations showing everything we need to know to make jewelry, sew, and glue with vintage buttons...

Then on to the projects! Page after page of gorgeously photographed button necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, and more jewelry... My favorite piece is the Wood Dual Drops - I absolutely love vintage wood buttons, and I'm always a big fan of asymmetry in design!

...But that's just the beginning! Beyond jewelry, there are housewares, accessories, embellishments, and gifts! These sections are packed with designs by amazing crafty contributors, like this Button Corsage by Rebecca Pearcy:

And I love love love this Button Stationery Set by Kayte Terry!

There are tons more projects I'd love to show you, but I really recommend checking out the book for yourself. If you're a button lover, you'll be in heaven, and if you're not already, you'll probably become one!
Lastly, to celebrate the release of Button It Up, Craftstylish is having an entire month of button project tutorials!! Carlin mentioned this last week, showing you Linda Permann's beautiful button coaster projects. I've done a couple project posts over there so far, including a knit pattern for a buttony cuff and a gridded button portrait, and some of my other favorites include Erika Kern's button pillow, button link necklace three ways by Susan Beal herself, and Diane Gilleland's dorset buttons. So dig out your vintage button stash, or go thrifting/garage sale hopping to gather yourself a stash, and get crafting with buttons!
