Weekly DIY Roundup: Recent Earthy Project Highlights!
With Earth Day coming up next week, several craft blogs and websites are doing green themed months, weeks, roundups, etc, and there are way too many cool projects out there for me to begin to do a thorough roundup here, so I'm just going to point to a few sites... Starting with Craft and their Crafting with Nature month. The above photo is from West Coast Crafty, Susan's version of a mini-terrarium based on Jenny Ryan's tutorial on Craft:

Also on Craft is Vickie Howell's Crocheted Wooden Bowl how-to, so creative!

Craft has been pointing to awesome Earthy projects and pieces throughout the month, like Bryan Nash Gill's amazing tree printing:

I love Crafting a Green World's Reuse Sewing Pattern Tissue Paper roundup post that Craft showed me, so many cool ideas!

Weaving with t-shirts is such a great idea, I'm so glad Craft pointed out alpha+mom's how-to on the subject:

Moving on, Craftstylish is also having a green crafting month, complete with a Crafty by Nature contest - check out the entries here! Eco-friendly projects and posts range from Matt Embrey's Crafters Will Save the World article to get you thinking, to projects using recycled materials, to projects that will help cut down on waste, to projects inspired by nature itself! Starting with recycled crafts, I love Diane Gilleland's Magazine Reed boxes and picture frames, to make use of old magazines and catalogs!

Diane also has a fabulous post with several ideas for ways to use old VHS tapes! So clever!

Susan Beal shows us how to recycle tin cans into mini-planters!

I've had a couple of recycled sweater projects, including this recycled cotton art yarn:

I also showed you how to make a vest from an old pullover sweater, like this one:

I love Kayte Terry's apple-print tote bag project, which actually uses nature to create the art!

Betz White shows us how to make a reusable sandwich wrap, to avoid having to waste plastic baggies at lunch!

I am totally going to make up some of these produce bags that Linda Permann wrote this tutorial for:

Linda also wrote a pattern for this amazing crocheted reversible swiffer sock, to help stop waste in floor cleaning!

If you make a mini-terrarium like Jenny's (and Susan's) up there at the top, but have no room on your shelves for it, check out Cal Patch's how-to for a crocheted hanging terrarium planter!

And lastly for the Craftstylish projects, Kayte Terry shows us how to make this gorgeous Spring Centerpiece; love it!!

Instructables also has an Earth Day page full of great projects. You can find fabulous green instructables all year round, like these Tired and True Trugs by Marcos, made from recycled tires, meant for carrying garden flowers and produce:

And I love these Tip-Top Flower Pots by jholland!

I'm going to finish off this roundup by pointing out that the online craft community as a whole (definitely including Threadbanger!!) is generally Earth-friendly all year 'round! Tons of craft bloggers and project designers focus on using recycled materials as much as possible, and on reconstructing rather than creating from raw (new) materials. We here at Threadbanger are hardcore into reuse, and I've done many roundups over the last year on ways to reuse specific materials, or other green subjects, like planting, homemade household cleaners, reusable shopping bags, recycled wool sweater projects, ways to reuse old jeans, button down shirt projects, and recycled necktie projects, to name a few! I feel like anyone reading this probably already thinks green and is doing his/her part, so keep doing what you're doing, you rock!! I know this is a super limited roundup and there are thousands of amazing eco-friendly projects out there, so feel free to share your favorites in the comments, and keep on posting your awesome projects in the forums!
