Worn Out: Street Style Picks

Hey guys! AS ALWAYS, here are my top 5 favorite street style pictures from the last couple of weeks - holler at them via the comments section. Here we go: The look on the left, from a May 14 post at Face Hunter, is a crazy mashup of nautical and WORKWEAR - I'm seriously questioning whether or not that's some wicked, revamped Carharrt jacket - and she pulls it off with both panache and a ridiculously cool pair of heeled, lace-up booties. Well played, crazy lady. The outfit on the left is far more understated, but I actually like it for the same reasons. From a May 20 post at Garance Dore, would YOU (outside of Alexander Wang runway dreamland) ever really think to pair your sweatpants with little booties and a sharp blazer? And if you did, would it turn out as well? I'm impressed with this woman, I really, really am.

From here on out my picks were all about COMFORT. Maybe it's the rainy, grey week we've been having in DC, but I found myself inherently attracted to looks that were, in all probability, picked up off the floor and thrown on in a matter of minutes. The photo on the left is from a May 15 posting at AltaMiraNYC, and as low-fashion as her pieces are - regular old blue jeans, a tee and some sweatshirts - she brings them together in such a way that you immediately get that SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE'S DOING. The glasses and oxfords are nice little nerd elements, and I appreciate the 50s collegiate vibe that the whole thing gives off. The photo at right - from a May 14 post at Stockholm Street Style - I loved for its mix of cutting edge facets and easy basics - it makes for a surprisingly cohesive whole. The harem pants and bleached-out denim jacket are on trend but totally easy to wear and soft, and it doesn't get more classic than black and white Converse. This is UNIFORM MATERIAL, people.

I hate flip flops. I think they are disgusting. And yet, somehow, ABOVE ALL ODDS, this May 18 post at The Sartorialist was my favorite look from the last few weeks. What, you ask, could possibly overshadow the most unfortunate of footwear choices? I will tell you, and I will start with the shorts. They're a perfect city-length, the pattern is killing me, and, against the chambray-blue of her gorgeously rumpled button-down, the color is just a dream. She's totally comfortable and completely put together (a delicate necklace will just do that, won't it?), and even though I would have personally chosen a nice moccasin or something similar to end this whole concoction, I'm not going to hate on a woman who knows how to take full wardrobe-advantage of beautiful weather. BRAVA.
