Making a Spectacle
Dorothy Parker said, “Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses,” but that was before Urban Spectacles of Wood came along. And if we learned anything from the February runway shows…the preppy look is the must-have look for fall. From Lacoste to Marc Jacobs, geek chic is in. So pass the cardigans, popped collars, elbow patches, and most importantly, the glasses…it’s time to make a spectacle. Designer Scott Urban, has show us that art is truly in the eye of the beholder. Stating that the current trend in eyewear “mocks our creativity,” Urban took matters into his own hands and created eyeglass frames made of wood. Using unique woods like purpleheart, lingum vitae, padauk, and more, each piece is custom designed to fit your face and is completely one-of-a-kind. Still whittling away in his Rogers Park basement in Chicago, Urban just came out with his new retro-inspired Record Specs collection…it’s so Buddy Holly. But keep in mind, whether you want round, square, rectangle, or a custom creation just for you, it’ll cost you. Frames start at around 0 and we’re guessing he doesn’t take insurance. Once you select your desired look, simply have the lenses popped in. And if you must indulge your hipster side, go for glass lenses for a faux look. How you like me know, Dorothy?! ~Images courtesy of Urban Spectacles of Wood
