DIY Sparkling New Years Ball!
So maybe if you live in any of the other 50 states BESIDES New York... or anywhere else in the world, you might have always wanted to trek over to the Big Apple and watch the ball drop. If you live in New York, you know that it's pretty much a nightmare.... hundreds, no thousands... wait no, approximately 1 million people cram into Times Square and wait all day with no bathroom breaks, no food and no.. gasp... alcohol to watch the ball drop at 12 midnight.
If you're like me and you think that standing in 20 degree weather for 8 hours is ridiculous, then I've got good news for you. I found this step by step how to make you own DISCO BALL! Yup, you can have your own New Years right in your very own home. OK, so maybe it's not waterford crystal, but it's amazing and with a few cocktails.... who will know the difference anyway! Happy (almost) New Years!!!!!
Thanks to DIY Network for this fabulous instuctable!
Materials:
4" foam ball
bamboo skewer
glue gun
hot glue
old compact disks
silver shank button
craft scissors
fishing line
tape
silver spray paint
1. Spray-paint the ball silver and allow to dry. When it's dry, use the bamboo skewer to pierce completely through the center.

2. Determine the length of the line needed to hang the disco ball. Double the measurement and add 3"; cut the fishing line to that measurement (e.g., if you want the ball to hang down 10", the measurement would be 23").
3. Thread the button onto the length of fishing line; slide the button to the center and secure with a knot.
4. Tape the loose ends of the fishing line to the bamboo skewer and thread the skewer through the disco ball. You should have a shank button on one end and two loose pieces of fishing line on the other end. Tie the ends of the fishing line together at the top to create the hanger.
5. Use craft scissors to cut the compact disks into 1/4"-1/2" squares. Hot-glue the cut squares on the center of the ball. Work all the way around the ball before filling in the top and bottom sections with cut pieces (glue the pieces as close together as possible).
