Zip It!
Last Fall/Winter saw the beginning of the exposed zipper trend, and it certainly carried full force over into the current and upcoming season. I love exposed zippers - they're a sleek way to lend a deconstructed vibe to any piece of clothing, and they couldn't be simpler to DIY.
Setting an exposed zipper is incredibly easy, and Expert Village has a great video from crafter Candi Cane-Canncel to get you started. If you want your zipper to be functional simply omit the last step of the tutorial, cut a line down the center of the fabric underneath the zip, pin it away from the zipper (on the underside of the garment, duh), and give it a final go-round with the machine. This will work for absolutely any piece of clothing you want to add zippers to, whether it be the back of a t-shirt, the front of a skirt, or the ankles of your jeans. Before you head to your closet to scout out pieces to transform, here's some next-level zipper-inspiration to take with you:

Outi of Finnish blog Outsapop.com took the exposed zipper trend to the hilt when crafting the above collar, and she was gracious enough to post a step-by-step tutorial at her Flickr site before gifting it to Susie (at right) of Style Bubble. Behold the extreme zip action! I am so awestruck!
Are you feeling the zipper trend? What's sitting in your closet that you can't wait to update with a little exposed zip?
