Weekly DIY Roundup: Backpacks and Messenger Bags!
After the Threadheads' great backpack tutorial on the show last week, I wanted to show you a few more options for handmade backpacks and messenger bags you can make for back to school time! These simple drawstring backpacks by Little Birdie Secrets are made with recycled pillowcases. I made a bag super similar to these (but simpler) when I was maybe 12 years old, one of my first sewing projects!

I love this backpack made with oilcloth by U-handblog, and waterproof would be a great feature for a bag up here in the pacific northwest! Lisa gives us a super detailed tutorial for this one!

Also with a fabulous tutorial is the city backpack by heart of mary:

And here's a version of a backpack made with recycled jeans, on SpinnySpinny.com...

Now onto some messenger bags, if that's more your style. Craftster has a bunch of great ones! Like gloriana's with a detailed how-to:

And this one by hikeaddict, which uses the Simplicity 2911 pattern.

Lastly, a version also by heart of mary, with a zipper closure under the flap and another excellent tutorial!

Let us know if there are any more fabulous backpack/bag tutorials out there, and show us your creations in the forums!
